FEBRUARY 2010: SPECIAL EDUCATION TOWN HALL MEETING
ATTENTION: Parents of Gifted Students in the Halton District School Board and all those interested in Special Education in Halton.
The HDSB is inviting parents and community members to attend one of three Town Hall meetings being held in Milton, Burlington and Oakville to review the HDSB's Special Education Plan. This is an opportunity for parents to have direct input to the Board's programs and services for gifted students and express concerns and ask questions related to Special Education.
Parents can take this opportunity to share their priorities for their children with the Board directly. Some topics of interest may be:
*Early Identification
*Range of Placement options available
*Acceleration Options
*Screening and Testing
*The IEP and IPRC process
*Special Education Resources
The dates and locations can be found on the HDSB website: http://www.hdsb.ca/Newsroom/Ads/HDSBSpEdReview.pdf
We encourage parents to take this opportunity to have their opinions heard about their educational priorities for their children in order to ensure they meet their full potential in school.
T
he Halton Chapter executive (Deb Seago, Miranda Kohler, and Phyllis Smith) have put together what they hope is an interesting series of events for members to attend throughout this year.
There will be a mix of casual, social nights and informative sessions with expert speakers. There should be something to appeal not only to long-time ABC members, but also to parents of very young gifted children and parents of newly identified students.
Don't miss out! Check the calendar regularly as we are working out details as quickly as we can.
Look for our new "event titles" to be posted on the calendar. Here is a sample of what's to come…
Download: These events are informative, networking events to bring together parents of newly identified gifted students and parents with experience in gifted education in our Boards. These Q&A and information sharing evenings energize and give confidence to parents in the midst of making those important placement decisions.
Discover: These sessions are designed to introduce parents of very young bright and gifted children to giftedness, gifted education in Halton, and to the resources available through ABC.
Research: Expert speakers will be invited to speak to us about a topic relevant to parents of gifted children.
Chill: Informal gatherings will be held at pubs and coffee houses to give parents an opportunity to network and talk in a relaxed atmosphere.
